New Milestone Reached This Year By AGB Investigative Services!
A milestone was reached this month by a family-owned security company known just as much for its community deeds as its protective services.
Chicago-based AGB (Always Giving Back) Investigative Services Inc. recently celebrated its 15th anniversary. The black-owned company was founded in 2001 by John Griffin Jr., a former investigator for the Cook County State’s Attorney Office in Chicago, who now serves as the CEO of a company with 325 employees.
“While working as an investigator I moonlighted as a security guard. And it was working this second job that I realized that we [black community] need a more polished product when it comes to security firms,” explained Griffin. “That’s when my wife Denitra and I started this company from our home.”
Griffin added that he left the state’s attorney office in 2011 after his wife gave him an ultimatum.
“She told me I could not continue working two jobs because it was beginning to wear me down physically,” recalled Griffin. “That’s when I left the state’s attorney to work for myself full-time.”
AGB, the only black-owned security firm in the country with a ISO 9001:2008 certification, is located in the city’s Beverly neighborhood and is staffed largely by community residents.
Among the services AGB offers besides armed and unarmed security guards are concealed carry training; computer forensic; criminal background checks; and digital and information security.
“You’d be surprised how many wives come to us wanting us to check their husband’s laptop to see if he is cheating with another woman, watching porn or if he is browsing dating sites,” said Griffin. “Our services go way beyond supplying security guards.”
As part of its celebration Griffin and staff visited the Longwood Charter School on the Southwest Side and spoke to students about entrepreneurship and careers in security.
“The company believes in its name (Always Giving Back) and that’s why we are always trying to identify ways to give back to the community,” added Griffin. “Giving back is how I stay blessed as a business and family man.”
