Since 2007, Crain’s Fast 50 feature has spotlighted local companies that have achieved impressive revenue gains over a five-year period in business, real estate, technology, health care, marketing, retail, logistics, and more. As such, the project annually offers a reliable snapshot of the region’s growth sectors.
Working with accounting firm Plante Moran, Crain’s had these ground rules for choosing the 50 companies:
- Crain’s considered only firms that have been in business since at least Dec. 31, 2014.
- Crain’s excluded real estate investment trusts, regulated banks, real estate developers, utilities, holding companies, subsidiaries/divisions, franchises and nonprofit organizations. Small companies (those reporting less than $15 million in 2019 revenue) were likewise not considered.
The other criterion: no more than one drop in revenue from 2014 to 2019.
